Why did the King of the African nation of Benin dress-up as half man and half fish?

Why do the Yoruba people in Africa have gods which are humanoid - but have tentacles instead of legs?

Is it related to the semitic god of old Iraq called Dagon (Hebrew: דָּגוֹן, Dāgōn) or 'Dagan' was worshipped in Sumeria and Mesopotamia...

Did these amphibious-humanoid 'gods' who came from the stars actually exist?

According to Sumerian expert JOHN MARCO ALLEGRO, the Sumerian hieroglyphs describe DAGON as 𒀭𒁕𒃶 'da-gan' - 'GAN' can refer to 'Garden / land / orchard' - as in the 'Garden of Eden' which is most likely to have been situated in a fertile valley not far from the northern coasts of the Red Sea.

So 'Dāgān' may mean 'of the Garden' - and this could possibly refer to the serpent-humanoid who tempted EVE. [Eve's original name was KAVA, or AVA].

Whatever the case, DAGON was worshipped in ancient Syria and was regarded as the "father of gods" similar to the Mesopotamian Enlil or Hurrian Kumarbi.

The Pope's tiara is heavily encoded with Dagon fish-humanoid symbolism. Though rather heavy-handed in its symbolism, it is likely that Dagon was mostly humanoid who could live happily in a semi-aquatic environment - such as the Osireion temple in Egypt which was built with semi-submerged chambers for the green-skinned god Osiris.

In fact, green-skinned amphibious fishy humanoid 'gods' abound all over the world - and could be an evolutionary lineage of 'star gods' such as the Anunnaki that may have visited Earth in ancient times from an aqueous watery planet.

Similar amphibious humanoid gods can be found in the legends of the DOGON people in Mali. They are called the Nommos and are prehistoric 'gods' venerated in the cosmic religion of the Dogon people - which is closely related to the star system of SIRIUS.

The Nommos gods are usually described as amphibious humanoids.

Folk art depictions of the Nommos show creatures with humanoid upper torsos, and a fish-like lower torso and tail - similar to the gods of the Yoruba people.

Nommos are also referred to as "Masters of the Water", "the Monitors", and "the Teachers" because - just like the 'Watchers' in Genesis and the Anunnaki, they taught early mankind many skills such as navigation-by-astronomy, weaving, metallurgy and the manufacture of weapons.
