Abraham Stoker did NOT invent Vampires. Long before his book 'DRACULA' was published, these mournful entities, who capture and initiate their number through drinking tainted blood, were known all over the ancient world.

By the time ALEXANDER THE GREAT had entered Babylon, VAMPIRES were already cemented into the minds of the ancient Persians.

Mesopotamia had stories involving blood-drinking demons which stretch way back into antiquity.

The Persians knew well of these monsters. Vampires attempting to drink blood from men are depicted on excavated pottery shards.

Ancient Babylonians lived in fear of the mythical Lilitu, or Lilith (Hebrew לילית‎) and her daughters the 'Lilu'. Lilith was considered a demon and was often said to drink the blood of babies. The legend of Lilith was originally included in some traditional Jewish texts: she was considered to be Adam's first wife before Eve.

In India, a Bhūta or Préta is the soul of a man who died an untimely death. He wanders around animating dead bodies at night, attacking the living much like a ghoul.

In northern India, there is the BrahmarākŞhasa, a vampire-like creature with a head encircled by intestines and a skull from which it drank blood.

Whilst the malign and succubus-like Baobhan sith in the Scottish Highlands and the Lhiannan Shee of the Isle of Man, Scotland and Ireland, are two 'fairy spirits' who feast on blood...

The historical legends tell of vampires living for centuries and becoming tyrannical landlords.Tensions and wars often broke out between these clans - but few people dared to speak of the vampire aristocrats for fear of being made one of the undead.
